About PAC
PAC stands for Parent Advisory Council. Every parent or guardian of a child at École Porter Street Elementary is automatically a voting member of the Porter Street PAC—there’s no sign-up required.
Our PAC is a vital part of the school community. It’s where parents and caregivers can:
- Learn what’s happening at the school
- Share ideas and feedback
- Help shape programs and initiatives that benefit all students
All parents are warmly encouraged to attend PAC meetings to get involved, stay informed, and see first-hand the positive impact PAC has on our school.
PAC Executive
Each year at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), parents vote in a new PAC Executive. By bylaw, the executive must include four roles:
- Chairperson
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- DPAC (District PAC) Representative
Sometimes these roles are shared to make the workload lighter, or to support a smooth transition when a long-time member steps down as their children move on to middle school.
The executive exists primarily to:
- Manage and run meetings
- Keep projects moving forward
- Ensure our group follows PAC bylaws
Beyond the Executive
PAC is much more than just four roles. We have coordinators who lead ongoing projects and programs such as:
- Fundraising
- Hot Lunch
- KM Club
- Fruit & Veggie Program
- Communications
- After school programs
And the list keeps growing! New roles and initiatives often emerge as parents bring fresh ideas, skills, and passions to share with the school community.
At its core, the PAC is parents working together to enrich the school experience for every student.
PAC Programs & Volunteer Opportunities
Did you know that every parent or caregiver of a Porter student is automatically a member of the PAC (Parent Advisory Council)? PAC isn’t a separate group of “other parents”—it’s all of us. Everything from hot lunches, fun community events, and fruit & veggie deliveries to running clubs and playground improvements happens because parents like you give a bit of their time, energy, and creativity.
Behind every program, event, and fundraiser is a team of volunteers who brainstorm ideas, plan the details, coordinate schedules, and make sure things run smoothly. It’s a lot of work—but it’s also fun, rewarding, and a great way to connect with other families while making a meaningful difference for our kids.
For the 2025/2026 school year, we’re looking to fill several key roles. If something below sparks your interest, please reach out to pspac.communications[at]gmail.com to learn more, ask questions, or put your name forward. And remember: most of these roles can be shared—many hands make light work!
Open Coordinator Roles 2025/2026
Capital Projects Coordinator
Help identify and lead improvements around the school, such as playground equipment upgrades or other enhancements.
Fundraising Coordinator(s)
Support our existing fundraisers and introduce new ones (holiday chocolates, Christmas cards, etc.). Perfect for someone organized and enthusiastic about creative ways to support our school.
Don’t see something that matches your skills or interests? That’s okay! If you have an idea for a new club, project, or way to contribute, we’d love to hear from you.
Together, we can continue to create opportunities, build community, and make Porter Street an even better place for our students.

Our Bylaws
The Bylaws are a set of rules that define our PAC and outline how the PAC must be run. The document includes things like what commitments are required for each of our executive roles, when we perform those duties, and how frequently we hold meetings.
Most recently, the bylaws were updated by a committee of PAC members and was adopted during a PAC AGM in March 2023.
Our bylaws are scheduled for review and updating during the 2028-29 school year when another committee will be formed to review and propose changes to reflect the ways the PAC has changed.
